About A.J. Ruggieri

A.J. Ruggieri is a native of Champaign County and has spent most of his life in East Central Illinois.  While in his youth, he was very active in the local community, his church, and Boy Scouts of America earning his Eagle Scout.  

A.J. graduated from the University of Illinois in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and commissioned as an officer in the Illinois Army National Guard.  After graduation he worked full-time running a local commercial cleaning business before going to the Police Training Institute immediately followed by service as a police officer for the City of Urbana and the Village of Atwood. 

In 2008 he was deployed with the Illinois National Guard to Afghanistan where he served as a police mentor team leader in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  As a result of his service overseas he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and a Bronze Star for service.  More recently, A.J. graduated from the Defense Information School as a Public Affairs Officer and he continues his over 18 years of service in the Illinois National Guard as commander of the 139th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment.

After returning from deployment, A.J. went to law school at Western Michigan Cooley Law School where he graduated Cum Lade with his J.D. and later graduated with a Masters in Corporate Law and Finance (LL.M.) in 2012.  A.J. returned to Champaign County and worked as a prosecutor in the Champaign County State’s Attorney office before going into private practice where he still works today.

In 2017, A.J. ran for and was elected to the position of Trustee for the Village of Savoy where he has continued to serve the community for the last three years.  A.J. has focused in and contributed to the development of better infrastructure, recreation, and pro-business policies that have served the citizens of Savoy well. 

A.J. is passionate about leadership and community service.  He is running for Senate in the 52nd district to use his leadership to bring a renewed focus to down state Illinois and the citizens of the 52nd.
